Akimel Wins Middle School State Championship

Photos from Championship against Atkinson

Feb 21, 2002

Congratulation to Akimel Middle School for winning the Middle School State Championship against Atkinson Middle School. The game was close most of the first with Akimel pulling away late in the second period. Atkinson played very well and never gave up. They came ready to play and it was a very exciting game.

Eric Hipolito scored 73 points in the four games and was the leading scorer for Akimel. Wilson Bibleheimer finished the tournament with 71 points. Julian Irvin scored 41 for the tournament but was instrumental in playing the point guard position. The tournament directors were hard pressed to declare an MVP so they decided to have a Tri-MVP with Bibleheimer, Irvin and Hipolito sharing the MVP honors. Check back for more details and Photos.

Akimel was only the second team to win back to back titles in the 27 year history of this tournament. Akimel went undefeated in both 7th and 8th grade and won every tournament they entered.

Welcome to the Unofficial Site of the Tempe Kyrene Athletic Conference Basketball Site. This site is being brought to you by Jam Basketball. As time permits us we will have articles and information about the TKAC games and tournaments. Currently we have posted the schedule and soon we hope to post rosters and records of the member teams. Many of the players that have played in Jam over the years are now playing for their respective school teams. We are proud of the players that helped develop their love of the game playing Jam and we hope with this site we will help get information about the teams and players to all the parents in Jam.
